ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we outline the shift from the neoliberal era in universities into the era of the Empowered Agentic University and activism where education is regarded as a common good, not in a narrowly defined way, but as benefiting a diversity and plurality of groups and individuals. We discuss what empowered agency means for university futures – their core business of learning and teaching, research or discovery and service and outreach. We also explore what the empowered agentic turn implies for university values, mission and moral purpose as leaders of thought and action locally and globally.
