ABSTRACT

Dislocated Complexity as it impacts on universities is addressed in this chapter. The role of universities in times of chronic disruption, crisis and perturbation is discussed and the importance of human agency in a context where action is imperative is explored. However, such action in the unknown and unknowable situations of Dislocated Complexity is unscripted and thus decision-making and actions occur on-the-run and in-the moment. Recent overlapping and intersecting crises are cited as a basis for examining the ways in which universities were impacted, along with the strategies that were employed to ensure their ability to ‘go on’ in this context.
