ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we discuss the design, implementation and impact of policy in universities in periods of Dislocated Complexity. Dislocated Complexity, being marked by chronic and extreme crisis and disruption, dislocation of the social, economic and political frameworks by which we make sense of our lives and relationships, presents policy challenges for universities. In this chapter, we first clarify our understanding of policy. We then draw on literature to highlight essentials of policymaking in Dislocated Complexity. We employ the key concepts that emerge to identify some approaches to policymaking in the current context, ending with an approach we term, ‘The 7i Policy Approach’.
