ABSTRACT

This chapter explores suicide as well as other more psychological forms of self-destruction. These are the:

Destruction of self through suicide possibly to stop the pain of living.

Denial of self, using false or fantasy biographical narratives to prevent pain and ensure emotional and social survival.

Denial of ethnicity and religion that is partly self-destructive but also a means of psychological survival.

The chosen examples from the family networks and others’ stories that illustrate this are suicide, fabrication and self-deception and changing names to blend in and avoid discrimination.
