ABSTRACT

The debate over gun rights and gun control is front and center in US life and politics. As we face gun violence unlike any other nation, the right to bear arms butts against the safety and security of our schools, churches, and other targets of mass shooting, and all the individual targets of gun violence and victims of accidents and suicide. In this chapter, we explore several of the common hot spots in the debate, including the potential deterrent posed by those carrying firearms, some of the gun control regulations that have been proposed, and the use of guns for hunting, recreation, and sport.
