ABSTRACT

Our goal is to have these conversations in a civil and productive way. Part of that is being cognizant of the context for the conversation, including the time and place. There is a world of difference between a conversation online and in person, as there is between one that is public or private. There are some settings that are far less conducive to fruitful conversation, including protests and demonstrations and almost any dialogue on social media. Web conferencing, while not ideal, can be used for healthy debate and we provide suggestions to facilitate that. We also provide guidance for managing town-hall meetings and suggestions for policies on flyers and handouts.
