ABSTRACT

The International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP) is the only international organization overseeing training for Jungian psychoanalysts. All institutes and societies desiring to provide training in analytical psychology must apply for recognition by the IAAP and meet minimum standards in terms of having adequate faculty and organizational structure. Jungian training groups evaluate their candidates in a variety of ways, i.e., through oral and written examinations on fundamental areas of knowledge, case reports, oral case presentations, papers on theoretical or archetypal themes, supervisor evaluations, or a formal thesis, although not all institutes employ all the evaluation methods listed. The organization of psychoanalytic training around psychoanalytic core competencies is one of the significant developments in analytic training over the past 20 years. Training in sandplay therapy is taken up during training by many Jungian candidates during their training, often undergoing an extensive certification process through one of the organizing bodies of sandplay therapy.
