ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with an overview of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) in language learning and teaching. Then, the potential of and existing obstacles to using open-access corpora as OER in data-driven learning (DDL) are discussed. The remainder of the chapter presents Incorporating Corpora, a corpus-based OER for teaching German to English-speaking learners. The organization of this resource and the underlying pedagogical principles are described, and the results of an exploratory study that pilot-tested the OER with US university students are reported. The chapter concludes with a call for development of more OER for DDL, especially for Languages Other Than English (LOTEs).
