ABSTRACT

This chapter compares patterns of teaching practices between teachers in the national system and a unique subsystem by utilizing video-recorded lessons that were coded according to instructional, assessment, and curriculum implementation practices. The analysis revealed that teachers in the subsystem were better in eight out of ten instructional dimensions and half of the assessment dimensions. Additionally, teachers in the subsystem were better at implementing curriculum in ways that met the needs of their students yet were similar to the national pattern of teaching when it came to connecting subject content to other subjects in the curriculum and the real world.
