ABSTRACT
Some States and the European Union impose sanctions against serious human rights violations overseas, including travel bans and asset freezes. The legality of such sanctions against Myanmar, Myanmar nationals or entities controlled by the Myanmar military will be analysed. So will Myanmar’s possible countermeasures against the sanctioning States and the EU. Since domestic law of certain States allow redress for victims of human rights violations, the chapter will then explore damages and other forms of reparation that may be available to the Rohingya in some foreign States, especially the United States where thousands of Rohingya refugees have become naturalized citizens.
