ABSTRACT

There is no doubt that conducting an interview can be quite daunting, especially those first few minutes when you meet someone new. Making a good impression and setting the tone at the start is critical to a good interview, or getting an interview at all. This chapter covers how icebreakers can be used to great advantage to relax both you and the interviewee before you get started. The two main types of Icebreakers covered are Research Icebreakers and On-the-spot Icebreakers. Research Icebreakers are the perfect way to show your interviewee that you have made the effort to find out about them and their interests. However, you don’t always have the luxury of time to do research before an interview. This chapter includes top tips and examples for using both research and on-the-spot icebreakers.
