ABSTRACT
Interviews can be divided into two main categories – news interviews and feature interviews. This chapter will concentrate on print news interviews, sometimes known as hard news, and how to conduct them to maximum effect. The use of the 5Ws and H questions to elicit facts and quotes (opinion) are covered in this chapter. Even the smallest news brief will contain answers to the closed questions – Who, What, When and Where. The open questions – Why and How – will add the quotes or additional information required for a longer story. A 17-step checklist has been provided in this chapter as a guide for conducting print news interviews.
