ABSTRACT

Discusses the London Rice Brokers’ Association Circular and uses it to outline the trade from the major Asian ports to Britain and Europe in these years including tables. The activities of the major trading companies such as Bullochs, Steels, Mohrs and Heaps are briefly indicated. As milling was transferred to Burma, the British mills declined and figures are provided showing this for the milling centre of Liverpool. These are based on the Wright Crossley & Co papers in Liverpool Central Library, not previously used in studies of this kind.
