ABSTRACT

In the second chapter, the authors move on and explore macro-level trends that have contributed to a complicated portrait of elite jobs and their declining stability and status over recent decades. They concentrate on system-level changes across the economy, as well as shifts happening across social and political structures in the United States and other western nations. Parts of the discussion include observations about income inequality in the United States, rising amounts of consumer debt, important shifts to the U.S. tax code, and other forms of financial realignment, as well as changes happening in policy areas following the election of Donald Trump as President.
