ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the different aspects contributing to a creative environment. Creativity doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Creativity can be supported or inhibited by the context in which it is being deployed. Understanding the many external pressures acting to block creativity is an important step since it gives us an idea of the problems we need to work on. Successful organizations with a clear culture for creativity are aware of the behaviours they want people to practice and the underlying beliefs they want to foster. One important aspect of an organization that supports creativity is reward and recognition. There are multiple roles a leader can take regarding fostering creativity. It is not only their support and guidance that counts but also the coordination role leaders can take on in teams. Leaders can influence the whole process of innovation, starting from idea-generation towards implementation of ideas.
