ABSTRACT

Creativity is the ability to come up with novel solutions to problems. Innovation is another of those words we can’t avoid bumping into these days. Although there are many definitions of innovation at its simplest, it is the process of creating value from ideas. The growth in social innovation has also been accelerated through enabling technologies around information and communication. Creativity sometimes involves breaking rules, changing perspectives and seeing things differently. Many studies of creative thinking have looked at two different modes of thinking – convergent and divergent. Convergent thinking is about focus, homing in on a single best answer, whereas divergent thinking is about making associations, often exploring around the edges of a problem.
