ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the need to guide students in best use of supplemental resources, largely digital. Those students with inadequate instruction usually fall into the trap of using supplemental resources as replacements for their own work and fail to realize their potential. Resources examined include the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), private coachings, self-recordings, and Nico Castel's opera libretti series; as well as digital tools, such as IPA Source, YouTube, The Diction Police, and DictionBuddy. Also advocated are digital language tools, such as Glossika, Duolingo, Rosetta Stone, Babel, and others. The author then cites several digital memory tools used by highly successful professional singers, such as iFlash, Anki, and Productivity501. Finally, virtual exchange is presented as one of the most important educational innovations of the 21st-century to date.
