ABSTRACT

This chapter will encourage school counselors to think about and begin to understand the many tools available to meet the needs of children and adolescents. These tools are often similar to what classroom teachers would use. Technology is more important than ever as school counselors use online instructional tools. Classroom and small group lessons can be conducted virtually. Technology can help with collaborative planning activities, master scheduling, and expanding access to all types of resources for students and families. It can also help deliver the material in the classroom to differentiate instruction more intentionally. The content in this chapter foreshadows the importance of expanding the research on practice for Black and Brown students and families. What is missing is clarity on effective pedagogy in virtual spaces, the impact of social/emotional learning in virtual environments, and specificity when teaching Black and Brown children to use technology and related tools to advocate for themselves and their communities (Levy, et al., 2019).
