ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors offer important terminology and concepts that surface throughout the book that will be useful for school counselors to develop a framework for action. We provide citations for some of these terms and concepts when appropriate. This chapter will extend readers’ knowledge by providing opportunities to deepen a) understanding of important terminology and conceptual ideas within school counseling; b) one's philosophical framework and its application as an equity-focused school counselor; c) the use of culturally responsive activities for examining one's cultural application as a school counselor; and d) comfort in engaging in conversations about race and expressing one's identities as motivation for helping students, families, and colleagues.
