ABSTRACT

On december 9, 1898, the Belur Math was formally dedicated and Swami Vivekananda carried on his head the sacred urn containing the relics of the Master and placed it on the altar of the new shrine room. The inmates of the Belur Math celebrated their first worship of Durga in 1901, and Holy Mother attended the festival. In this chapter, the authors discuss particularly the Mother’s relationship with the Ramakrishna Order. The Mother’s daily life followed more or less the same pattern at the Udbodhan as at Jayrambati. The members of the Ramakrishna Order came from various parts of India, and from different castes, social positions, and backgrounds. The Ramakrishna Order of monks consists of those who have renounced the world for the purpose of realizing God and serving humanity. Householders can also be members of the Ramakrishna Mission.
