ABSTRACT

SriRamakrishna was eager to awaken completely the innate divinity in Sarada. After repeated tests he had become convinced of her unsullied purity and of her being now fully prepared to become aware of her divine nature. For Sri Ramakrishna it signified the final destruction of lust and the complete triumph of spirit over matter, total suppression of animal in man. He recognized divinity where ordinary men are least disposed to see it. During the first visit Sarada Devi spent a year and eight months at Dakshineswar. In October 1873 she returned to Kamarpukur and also saw her relatives at Jayrambati. Shortly after her return to Dakshineswar in April 1874, Sarada Devi took up her residence at the Nahabat. After staying in it for a year, Sarada Devi was stricken with a serious attack of dysentery. While returning to Dakshineswar from her fourth visit, in February 1877, Sarada encountered a highwayman. On this occasion she showed exceptional courage, intelligence, and self-control.
