ABSTRACT

Holy Mother made Jayrambati her permanent country residence from 1897 till 1920, the year of her death. She demonstrated that even the most humdrum duties of the world can be performed as spiritual acts. Since her domestic life was conterminous with her life of spiritual ministry, we shall first consider her relationship to her family. In the death of Shyamasundari Holy Mother lost a beloved and intimate relative to whom she had always presented her problems and from whom she received counsel in the discharge of household responsibilities. The villagers also lost a sincere well-wisher and friend. Though Holy Mother was blessed with godly parents, she was really unfortunate in her other relatives. Her brothers were greedy, selfish, and quarrelsome, her sisters-in-law jealous of one another, and her nieces always demanding. One day Holy Mother was talking at Jayrambati to a devotee who was a high-caste brahmin.
