Product placements can be a valuable source of production funding. Product placement is the intentional inclusion of a brand name or product in a movie, TV program, web series, etc., for the purpose of increasing brand awareness. The filmmaker may want the manufacturer to feature the film within a coordinated marketing campaign. Manufacturers will often insist that their products not be featured in a manner that is inconsistent with the products’ ordinary use, which begs the question: What happens when the director shows the product in a way that is objectionable to the manufacturer? The manufacturer will require that the production company name it as an additional insured in its general liability policy.
