ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the historic rise of coffee in Guatemala and tea in Sri Lanka. A primary focus of this chapter is to provide context for the case studies by detailing the rise of more sustainable models for production of coffee and tea in each country. A briefing on the approach to the case studies is also provided. Overall, essential country-specific background and research methods for the case study are discussed, in addition to the process of data collection. The goal of this chapter is to provide geographic and historical context at the country level, in addition to an approach to research for the case studies that follow.
