ABSTRACT

In this chapter the writer contextualises how South African society has several decades of formalised dysfunction from which to recover, and several hundred years of colonialism before then. It also considers where on the timeline of healing South Africans are. The chapter looks at healing, storytelling, conflict and recovery in Northern Ireland and other parts of the world, Guatemala, etc., as examples of healing a society. It also considers the work that has been done in South Africa to date. It looks at the work around forgiveness, compensation and psychological healing.
