ABSTRACT

In this chapter the writer introduces the third main character, Ma Rita Ndzanga. Rita Alice Ndzanga was born on 17 October 1933, the third child of Isaac and Alina More. They were farmers, establishing a village called Mogopa near Ventersdorp in the Transvaal. The community Rita was born into, the Bakwena ba Mogopa, had been evicted from their ancestral lands in 1912. She was an active trade unionist and married Lawerance. Together they were active members of the African National Congress and smuggled young people across the borders for military training and schooling out of South Africa.
