ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how widening participation in classics can be applied to a primary school context. It first provides an overview of past and current primary school classics projects in the US and Europe. The Flemish case study of Ancient Greeks – Young Heroes is introduced in a social justice context, and the impact of the project is framed in existing research findings. On the basis of current practice, different approaches to classics at primary school are outlined with regard to learning objectives, potential teachers, and course format.
