ABSTRACT
This chapter traces important changes in gender relations in Latin America under the spur of new international influences plus crucial domestic developments such as the expansion of education, the demographic transition, and the spread of democracy. The unusually strong representation of women’s voices in politics in the region was one crucial index of a substantial transformation.
