ABSTRACT

One way to approach plot design in story writing is by providing/eliciting a list of relevant problems. The class assembles a list of problems faced by story characters and posts these. Starting with the idea that “your character has a problem,” a list may include items such as the following: He/she has a secret She/he feels disliked He/she wants to help a friend They want to reach a goal They have met an obstacle She/he feels incapable He/she has been tricked When a companion list of settings is posted, students will have a motivating head start at story writing.
