ABSTRACT

Socrates had it right, but did he know himself? This question is asked in the realization of how hard it is to know ourselves. We may even be our own hardest person to know because of the defenses built up that fend off the truth. This being said, teachers’ first commandment is to face who they are and adjust attitudes and behavior to fit the complex mix of circumstances in the classroom. How to do this? A personality test such as the Myers-Briggs is a place to start. The match and mismatch of personality preferences can be funny and useful only when they are understood, and the classroom is rife with dynamics relating to the differences in personalities.
