ABSTRACT

There are problems in teaching that can be solved when the causes and their interactions are recognized. A common sign of one such problem is the dominance of discussion or cooperative groups by a few individuals and the reticence of the rest. The “kingdom” appears, once again, to be asleep. Since there is value to cooperative learning and group discussion, however, it is crucial to note that there are at least four factors contributing to the lack of focus in the activity and that these factors form a deadly intersection or counterproductive confluence. These are, at least, lack of interest or sense of relevance, lack of time to think, lack of clarity, and a low sense of urgency.
