ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by asking about who and what is monumentalised, and asks if we should take more interest in a cultural paradigm informed by theories of ‘the event’. Autobiographical anecdote is used once again here to introduce the reader to the foundations of the writer’s ideas in his postgraduate search for fundamental understanding that led to the thought of Gilles Deleuze. Various texts and references drawn from Deleuze are shown to support an event-based cultural paradigm that is ultimately offered up to history as a possible form or model.
