ABSTRACT

Designing a bedroom is an intimate exercise, so the designer needs to keep the conversation especially relaxed when discussing the sleeping space probably more than for any other space in the house. Ideally, the designer has already explained how it is necessary to "climb inside" their clients' lives to create a genuinely bespoke interior. The designer can also turn that idea around, and ask how many of the functions in the home can be combined with the sleeping space. However, as with most interior design, it is when the designer and client explore bespoke designs that real fun can be had. If the sleeping space is intended for an occasional guest, sofa beds, wall beds and truckle beds can all be considered. Underfloor heating is worth considering for a new build, or client with an accommodating budget, but the designer should be conversant with the technical considerations of retrofitting both wet and dry systems before suggesting it to the client.
