ABSTRACT

The more information the designer can glean about the client's needs, the easier it will be to decide where in the home to fit a suitable workspace. An open-minded and creative designer should be able to produce designs which enhance the space and fulfil the broad brief within these parameters by using solutions that are practical, good-looking and all fit for purpose. The challenge would be providing heat, light and plumbing for the new space, and the designer will need to ensure that it complies with the necessary regulations, including planning permission. If space and building controls allow, the designer might be able to build a partition and hide away the study. However, in the truly bespoke the designer has the opportunity to mix endless veneers and to include hidden drawers and cupboards in the room, which can make it so much more special.
