ABSTRACT

The designer will need to use every centimetre of the site wisely to accommodate the client's needs. If the designer considers basic everyday actions, these will include: using coats and outdoor shoes; storing cleaning materials and the iron/ironing board; laundry, drying and the linen cupboard; space for the Christmas decorations, bottles, sports kit and other items essentially storage, storage and more storage. When a designer starts to work with new clients it is easy to spend so much time on the main rooms that meetings run out of time without considering the rest. The designer may want to claim it for the guest WC, coats, laundry or desk, but this too makes an excellent spot for wine storage. While metaphorically walking the client around the house, it remains true to the principle of creating space that the designer should look to the outside as well as the inside for extra space.
