ABSTRACT

Psychoactive plants and their derivatives have numerous potential benefits for people with PTSD, complex trauma, and TBI. Understanding the use of specific plants provides an opportunity to explore with clients their options for self-care and the role plants and substances may play in improving their well-being or in providing alternatives to destructive forms of self-medication. The Readiness for Psychedelics Assessment is a simple tool to begin the assessment process. Research into the medical and psychotherapeutic applications of psychoactive substances significantly dampened in the United States following the 1970s. There is renewed interest throughout the world in conducting research. This new interest will continue as new treatment options emerge and integrate with ancient methods.
