ABSTRACT

Cultural humility enables clinicians to support every client considering their values and identities. Exploring cultural and historical trauma requires understanding the specific social and political influences affecting the client’s experience. Healing rituals employ activities that focus attention, create symbolic actions of change, and provide a means for people to join, have a shared experience, and achieve altered states for physical, emotional, and spiritual inspiration. Participants create rituals that have meaning for them and signify their healing process. Practices nourish the resilience required to withstand the past pains and cope with the present challenges while renewing a vision for the future. Transpersonal psychology, spirituality, and religious practices facilitate cultural rituals and help individuals and groups regulate and resonate. Resilience, psychological and biological, is bidirectional. Genomics illuminates the strengths and risks that lifestyle interventions address effectively. Posttraumatic growth posits that the victim moves toward surviving and thriving as they make meaning of their experiences.
