ABSTRACT

This chapter brings together the theoretical (Chapters 1 and 2) and the empirical approach (Chapters 3 and 4) and offers a comprehensive account of Twitter’s impact on news journalism. By examining this impact in the context of a constant state of punctuated equilibrium, the chapter highlights the evolutionary pattern discussed in the previous chapters, which when applied to news journalism reveals both the direct and indirect costs and benefits to the changing practices of news journalism. Overall, the chapter responds to the question why Twitter should be so pervasive in news journalism.
