ABSTRACT

The World Export Processing Zones Association (WEPZA) was the creation of the United Nations International Development Organization (UNIDO) throughout the 1970s to enable and help developing countries enhance export production through the concept of export processing zones. From 1978 to 1985, WEPZA consisted of representatives of governments with export processing zones and operated under the auspices of UNIDO. For UNIDO, WEPZA provided crucial training programs for zone officials. The world free zones organization states that free zones have played a critical role in the economies of many countries and to ensure they have the greatest possible impact, they need a global, unifying association to bring them together. One that can represent their interests, share their achievements and support their continuous positive development.
