ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a theoretical overview of the study. It engages with the key ideas of the liberal theorization of the role of media in democracy and maps the sociological understanding of producing, representing and consuming media discourses. The research questions of the study are drawn from an engagement with these varied theoretical orientations.
