ABSTRACT

In this project, students will invent something that solves a problem. Systems can be quite complicated. Take our political system, for example. A basic understanding of it is that there are three branches of government, each watching the others to make sure there is no abuse of power. Because many systems are so complex, from ecosystems to the Earth's climate to the solar system, having the ability to analyze complicated systems and describe them concisely and accurately is a valuable skill. In this project, students will invent something that solves a problem. The model need to be a working model, but it does need to show what the invention would look like. Students can build a scaled model if their actual invention is very large. Through this project, students will learn the system for turning an idea into an invention, understanding that it is simply a matter of creating something from scratch.
