ABSTRACT

Once in the real world, students have to be able to pull different skills learned in separate arenas and put them together. Through crosscurricular lessons and activities, students can better understand the context of what they are learning and how it fits into the real world. During a science project involving the creation of a new version of a mousetrap, students may not realize the math skills they are developing by drawing a plan with dimensions. Students will determine a science, technology, engineering, and math topic they wish to teach the rest of the class about and develop a lesson plan. Students may include a presentation, worksheets, projects, and even a test in their lesson for students to complete. Students may suggest strategies such as involving students, repeating important things, making real-world connections, including visuals, or including a hands-on component, game, or competition to learn content.
