ABSTRACT

Documentaries such as Most Likely to Succeed show the power project-based learning (PBL) can have on students. As PBL has gained traction in schools, there has been more and more research on its effectiveness. PBL better taught conceptual and applied knowledge, meaning there was a much better chance of enduring understanding. Eighty-two percent of students said PBL methods were engaging to them, while less than half said the same thing about traditional classroom methods. STEM-based PBL provides students with authentic learning experiences. Through such experiences, students understand the context of how what they are learning fits into the real world. This means that students are better equipped to apply a concept or skill in a later project or unit, as well as when they go on to college or enter the workforce.
