ABSTRACT

Students should be engaging in inquiry on a daily basis. Through inquiry, students discover things for themselves, much like they did when they were young children first learning about their place in the world. Inquiry is what caused them to first discover what got their parents’ attention or first emulate another person’s actions. The best way to facilitate an environment of inquiry in the classroom is through teaching students to ask the right sorts of questions. Younger students, especially, may need more guidance as to what form these questions will take. The ability to work in a group and collaborate is a valuable 21st-century skill that is important to teach, even to young children. This chapter presents a project in which, using just a handful of supplies, students will work in groups to build mechanized Art Bots that will contribute to a class piece of art.
