ABSTRACT

Once in the real world, students have to be able to pull different skills learned in separate arenas and put them together. Different subjects and skills work together to get desired results. Many educators include art in STEM education, known as STEAM. Others, still, include reading (STREAM), as there are connections to English language arts and literacy across the curriculum, such as writing a research paper, reading for comprehension, or conducting an interview. If students are writing a research paper on the importance of various modes of transportation, such as the railroad, steamboats, and national roads, they may not realize they are learning about history while doing so or, alternatively, might not realize they are using language arts skills to learn about history.
