ABSTRACT

One of the ways of connecting to each learner’s strengths and weaknesses is by differentiating learning experiences. Differentiation may occur when teachers understand standards within and across domains so they may appropriately enrich, pace, and accelerate the curriculum based on assessment data. Moreover, using this sequence of learning experiences, the teacher can view the entire scope of content across grade levels and insert more level concepts into their lessons based on student readiness. In these learning experiences, the focus is on measurement and data. Kindergarten students organize items into groups, count and measure objects, and label categories. Activities that are different for advanced students are italicized for easy reference. In elementary and middle school grades, advanced and typical students have opportunities to share their data in small and whole groups. In this way, all students have opportunities for communicating and critiquing one another’s work.
