ABSTRACT

Diversity is an important topic that can expand many discussions about children with gifts and talents. Frequently, educators overlook diverse children for gifted and talented identification and services, resulting in their strengths going unnoticed or being underdeveloped or misunderstood. Culturally diverse students may not display their gifts and talents in ways that mirror what teachers have traditionally been taught to use in recognizing advanced ability or potential. Probably the greatest barrier is that so many people, including educators, believe that there is no need to worry about children with gifts and talents, as they will make it on their own. Two goals for collaboration are success for children and talent development for them. Talents do not burst into a child's life but rather develop over time. The target audience is educators who want to develop the talents of children and young people in their classrooms and schools.
