ABSTRACT

Most bullying happens because of lack of supervision by caring adults and a lack of sufficient education in diversity and appreciation of all groups of students. This lack of supervision and rise in bullying are especially noticeable in gifted populations. Bullying is not only hurting someone mentally, physically, or emotionally repeatedly and over time, but it is also an effort to break that person down to a point so he or she feels trapped. Educators may also ask a wide range of questions about attitudes toward high ability, divergent groups, and disabilities. Some kids will just rub teachers the wrong way, and teachers will have personality conflicts with certain students. Many teachers have a tendency, through their defensiveness, to put up a battle shield every time they have to deal with certain students. Every school should have a bullying and behavior policy that is written and presented to students and parents at the beginning of the year.
