ABSTRACT

Barriers break down when information is available and correct—when myths about gifted children are debunked. Partnerships between parents and educators are built on trust and respect. Such collaboration is very important in order to give the children who are gifted and talented opportunities to soar. Learning is ongoing when children have no learning ceiling. They benefit when educators and parents collaborate and have excellence as a goal. Effective communication requires both parties to be good listeners and talkers. Effective communication is a two-way opportunity—absorbing information as well as providing information. Parental involvement in children’s schooling is a very important component in maximizing students’ learning potential. Developing and maintaining good home/school communication is essential to building strong parent involvement. Parents need to know where to find information that will help them learn what is true and what is myth about gifted children as well as about strategies for helping their children in school.
