ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an illustrative example of using Dynamic Teaching with the math standards. Teachers know that they must follow district-mandated standards for teaching content areas such as math. However, a number of standards have been produced at national, state, and district levels. All are intended to be resources to guide teaching. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is an international professional organization dedicated to excellence in mathematics teaching and learning for all students. This organization is committed to the view that standards can play a leading role in guiding the improvement of mathematics education. Principles and Standards for School Mathematics proposes six principles. The six principles for school mathematics address the following themes: Equity, Curriculum, Teaching, Learning, Assessment, and Technology. Principles and Standards for School Mathematics proposes 10 standards, which are descriptions of what mathematics instruction should enable students to know and do.
